Daniel 8:20,21 - what do secular authorities say?
by konceptual99 ini am looking for anything that suggests there is a rational explaination for daniel apparently predicting the rise of greece as a world power.
there is some stuff online suggesting that scholars years ago thought it was modified over time but evidence points to it having been written in the 6th centuary bc and they have been forced to correct their view.. is there anything anywhere that presents the accepted secular view of this passage?.
cheers.

Did Israel's Leader come from Bethlehem?
by Doug Mason inthe july 2012 issue of awake!
states that the narratives of jesus birth show that the bible is a book of accurate prophecy.. the aim of this study is to find out what the birth narratives do reveal about the nature of the bible.. what does investigation of the writings of micah, matthew, and luke reveal about the way that the bible should be read and applied?.
does this investigation open the door to a better comprehension of the nature of scripture?.

How many ex-jws poster here now believe in Hellfire, immortality of soul, trinity, etc;
by booker-t ini am just curious about this because although i agree with many of the posters here that the wt society is guilty of many horrible deeds, i still believe they are right when it comes to doctrinal things as i mention.
especially hellfire.
i just don't see how anybody that has studied the bible for many years like many of the ex-jws here can make an about face and go back to believing hellfire.

Were 'alien residents' Second Class Israelites?
by The Searcher inthe accepted teaching amongst most (i'm addressing fellow witnesses here) is that 'alien residents' were merely "beneficiaries" of the law covenant, but were not equal with natural israelites.
the insight book has this to say; "the law covenant between jehovah and the nation of natural israel was made in the third month after their leaving egypt, in 1513 b.c.e.
(ex 19:1) it was a national covenant.

Yahweh's False Promise About Judah
by John Kesler inthe author(s) of the books of kings claimed that the kingdom of judah would never be captured because yahweh had determined that judah would always exist for david's sake (see 2 samuel 7:13-16).
this understanding, that the literal kingdom of judah would survive and be protected by yahweh --despite the wickedness of its kings--is mentioned several times:.
11therefore yahweh said to solomon, "since this has been your mind and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that i have commanded you, i will surely tear the kingdom from you and give it to your servant.

What made Jesus' followers believe that Jesus rose from the dead?
by John Kesler inwhat made some of jesus' followers believe that jesus rose from the dead?
my best guess--and as e.p.
sanders says, we really don't know--is that jesus' followers--distraught, sad, and disillusioned--had visions in what we now call altered states of consciousness, a condition that can be induced by fasting, sleep deprivation, and fatigue.

Length of the Israelites' Egyptian Sojourn: An Unsolvable Bible Error
by John Kesler inin exodus 12:40-41, we find this very specific statement:.
40 the time that the israelites had lived in egypt was four hundred and thirty years.
41 at the end of four hundred and thirty years, on that very day, all the companies of yahweh went out from the land of egypt.. the problem is that this is at odds with the genealogy in exodus 6:16-20:.
